Welcome to Orchard Mesa Middle School: Home of the Knights!

Mission Statement: At Orchard Mesa Middle School we are striving to foster a cooperative effort between school, parents and community, empowering our students to be lifelong learners that achieve, accept challenges, learn to persevere and discover their passions.

Vision Statement: Equipping Students for Life

Dear OMMS Families,

As you have heard, we have had to make the decision to go to remote learning for the week of November 16 - 20, 2020. Students will not be in attendance at our building. Starting Tuesday November 17, 2020 students will be in remote learning through November 20, 2020. Staff will be getting things finalized on Monday so students will not be in attendance online Monday November 16th. Our remote learning plan is outlined below. This is NOT the same as the emergency learning that occurred in the 4th quarter last year! Students will be required to join classes daily during the scheduled time and attendance will be taken. Students have been practicing using Schoology and Google Meets so they should be ready to go. Students are expected to follow the schedule found below. Please note, the schedule for Wed/Friday is a little different than Tuesday/Thursday.

PLEASE take the time to read through this entire plan! There is a lot of very important and useful information.

  • Google Meets and Google Chats are great when directed by your Teacher! However, do not invite anyone or start a Google Meets or Google chats without the direction of your teacher.

What is Remote Learning?

  • An educational model characterized by a physical separation of learner and educator. This model is typically dependent on digital technologies for learning management and communications. In a remote learning, instruction and interactions may be synchronous and/or asynchronous.
    • Will not look the same as what “remote” learning looked like during 4th Qtr 2019-2020 SY

  • Not the same as the D51 Online Learning Program

  • Synchronous Learning - a general term that is used to describe educational models where instruction or learning happens at the same time and often at the same location.

  • Asynchronous Learning - a general term that is used to describe educational models where instruction or learning happens at different times and often at different locations.

  • Learning Management System (LMS) - a software application that is used for the purpose of administering, curating, tracking, reporting, and automating content delivery for educational courses. Our LMS is Schoology.

Students agree to...

  • Engage in remote learning activities being offered by their teachers, school, and/or D51

  • Ensure that they know their usernames and passwords for instructional resources that are accessible via Classlink

  • Ensure they set up a remote workspace and calendar to manage their time

  • Respectfully utilize D51 technology and ensure that technology and materials are returned after remote learning

  • Follow the student code of conduct

  • Attend advisory/morning meeting class

  • Attend teacher office hours when needed

Families agree to...

  • Work with D51 to ensure that a device and internet access are available for remote learning

  • Monitor D51 and school communication for up-to-date information regarding school closures and other important info

  • Confirm and support  student participation in remote learning

  • Monitor information from school and classroom teacher(s)

  • Ensure that technology and materials are returned after remote learning

Teachers and Counselors agree to...

  • Provide instructional resources and materials through remote means, using the G Suite and/or Schoology

  • Provide board adopted instructional resources and materials

  • Ensure student data safety and security

  • Ensure synchronous/live lessons are scheduled and held

  • Set office hours to connect with students and support their learning and social/emotional needs (Minimum 3 times weekly)

  • Adhere to school wide schedules when planning for synchronous lesson delivery

  • Deliver instruction remotely from their classroom to address technology, scheduling, and LC needs

    • Schools will need to be disinfected prior to remote teaching from classroom

Administration agrees to…

  • Support teachers, counselors and staff in determining which remote learning platform is best for their level and content - MS will continue to use Schoology

  • Ensure teachers are providing board adopted instructional resources

  • Monitor and provide feedback on synchronous instruction

  • Set office hours to connect with staff, students and families

  • Ensure safety and security of student data

  • Ensure Student Services meet the guidelines for delivery, documentation, and schedules

  • Ensure parents and teachers understand how to get support for student academic, social and emotional, and technology needs

How will my student access Google Meet?

Students will be sent a code through their D51 Email by their teachers or the code will be in their Schoology Lesson.  It will be important for students to check their D51 email on a regular basis as well as log into Schoology.

What if I need something from school?

Teachers will be teaching from their classrooms unless they are quarantined. If your student needs to retrieve materials from OMMS, please call the main office at 970-254-6320 and we will work with you to determine how best to meet those needs.

Food Service:

Lunch and Breakfast will still be provided daily. Families will drive up to the WEST side of the building (by the Gym entrance) where there will be a drive through line. Students will be provided either a PBJ or Hot Lunch option as well as breakfast for the following day. The line will be open from 11:00-12:00 daily.

When will we return to in-person learning?

That decision will be made by Wednesday, November 25th. You will be notified by D51 as to whether or not we will be in-person or remote after the Fall Break. That determination will be made based on the health of our community, transmission rates, etc. Our great hope is that our community will be healthy enough for us to return to in person, face to face learning. Please do your part by following the recommendations of the health department. Socially distance, wear a face covering, do not gather in large groups, be safer at home!

What if I don’t have internet access?

T-Mobile Hot Spots are available for families without internet access at home. Please send lindsey.wyser@d51schools.org an email or give her a call at 970-254-6320 extension 38102 to apply for a Hot Spot.

Will my child still receive special services (such as SPED/ELL/GT)?

Yes, students will continue to work with special service providers. These teachers or providers will continue to work with students in google meet classes, during regularly scheduled classes, or will set up special google meets with students.

How do I learn more about the D51 Remote Learning Tools?

Please access many useful resources at:  https://www.d51schools.org/parents/remote_learning

There you will find useful information regarding, ParentVue, Schoology, Classlink, Chromebooks, Google Meet, and other Secondary Resources.

Please call Lindsey Wyser. Our number is 970-254-6320 her extension is 38102.

What if my student or I want to reach a OMMS staff member?

All staff will be reporting to OMMS to work from OMMS. If you need to speak to any staff member please call the school 970-254- 6320. You may also email any staff member.

Please check for emails and messages sent from OMMS and D51 throughout the time away from OMMS.

Again, we are disappointed this had to happen. We appreciate you taking the time to read through all of this information. We are grateful to you for working with us to support your student during this time. Please feel free to contact us with any questions, comments, or concerns. As always, thank you for allowing us to work with your student each day.
